Seller's Note

Born of necessity

As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. In 1957, England was still in a post-war economic phase. The Suez crisis was raging, fuel prices were soaring and engineers were beginning to wonder whether the gas-guzzling cars of previous decades still had a future. Alec Issigonis, a top engineer at the Morris Company in England, was given a challenge: to design and build a small, fuel-efficient car capable of carrying four adults. The project took him two years to complete, and in 1959 he finished his mission. The MINI was born.

The 60s icon

Right from the start, the MINI's original design turned heads. To create more space inside, Issigonis moved the wheels to the ends of the car and rotated the engine sideways. Thanks to these modifications, the MINI had enough space to accommodate four people while offering unrivalled driving stability, making this little car cost-effective, fun and agile to drive. The youth of the 60s, driven by the independence and spontaneity of the emerging culture, immediately fell in love with it. The MINI transcended British class divisions and became popular with everyone from hip youngsters to royalty. It was a true cultural phenomenon.

Renaissance

In 1969, more than two million MINIs were sold worldwide, and that same year the car even stole the show from Michael Cane in "L'or se barre". In 1999, sales of the classic MINI exceeded five million, and the MINI was voted "European Car of the Century" by a panel of 130 international motoring journalists.

A MINI for everyone

In the 60s, the original MINI became an icon, crossing all cultural boundaries. From touring rock bands to families heading to the seaside, everyone in Britain piled into these cars to get around. The MINI was never a status symbol, it was designed for everyone.

A true automotive icon, the Mini has endured the years with equal enthusiasm.

The Mini we're offering today is a "SPECIAL" version powered by a 1000cm3 engine. The Mini is in excellent condition inside and out, and benefits from an original sunroof. The maintenance file and technical inspection attest to its regular maintenance.

Indulge yourself with a timeless myth that will never go out of fashion.
