To accompany the sedan, coupé and spider already in production, an original three-door coupé, with a large boot and suitable for families, was launched in 1975: Lancia Beta HPE, High Performance Estate.
In 1974, Pininfarina created a Targa version of the coupé, called Spider, later produced by Zagato. To create the HPE, the Turin coachbuilder took the longer floor of the sedan and the entire front section of the coupé, right up to the doors. From there, he modified the appearance of the rear side window, which rises slightly, and the rear pillar, which extends the roof and forms a trapezoid following the inclination of the large hatchback. It's this element that characterizes the Beta: a bit of a coupé, a bit of a wagon. The tailgate, attached to the roof, features a slender frame that widens to finish at the level of the beltline, forming a kind of spoiler. Inside, the large window features a Venetian-blind-inspired structure that filters and protects the contents of the trunk from light. The Venetian blind motif is repeated on the outside up to 3/4 of the rear pillar.
The result is a highly original coupé, with the loading capacity of a station wagon, elegant and sporty, in the Lancia tradition, and with the added modularity that will only be reproduced on multispace cars.
With the fourth series of 1981, the family coupé changed its name to Beta H.P. Executive, to underline its renewed sporty character. The full name appears on the new satin-finish fascia at the bottom of the tailgate. The 1.6 engine remains unchanged, while the two-liter benefits from the electronic fuel injection system: it now develops 122 hp while further reducing fuel consumption. On the outside, all mouldings are matte black and the grille, as in all Lancia production, features the chrome trapezoidal frame with central stripe that evokes the radiator crest of glorious models of the past, notably the Aprilia and Aurelia. As in the coupé version, the fabrics covering the seats are modified and the central stripe features a check pattern.
The Lancia Beta we are offering is a 1982 model equipped with a 2-liter engine. The vehicle is in very good condition inside and out. The current owner has maintained it regularly.
The C.T. is up to date. An Italian-style hunting station wagon that's sure to give you pleasure while retaining a family feel.
