1951 Cooper Racer 500
- Invoice history available
- Manual gearbox
The Cooper Racer 500 was the brainchild of the Cooper Car Company, which produced a lightweight prototype in its simplest form: steel chassis, aluminum body, magnesium wheels, mass-produced running gear and a mid-mounted 500cm3 motorcycle engine. The formula was recognized by the FIA in 1950 as a stepping stone to Formula 3. Stirling Moss was won over by the formula, and made his debut in a Cooper Racer 500. The Cooper Racer offered today is a 1951 MK5 model (chassis: MK5/2/51), as attested by its VIF (Vehicle Identification Form). Ex Ken Carter, the Cooper Racer won the following races in 1951: Rouen 4th - GoodWood 3rd - Castelcombe 3rd - Brands Hatch 1st. Between 1952 and 1980 it was converted to 1100cm3 for Formula 2 racing, before returning to its original 500cm3 configuration. This 500 racer is powered by a new Norton Manx engine of Molnar origin, fitted with a Mikuni carburetor to simplify operation. Its original fuel system is available. It also includes a "paddock starter" useful for starting the engine. A ready-to-run vehicle, eligible for historic races such as GoodWood.
