Seller's Note
Replacing the Ami 6 saloon, whose sales had been falling steadily, Citroën unveiled the Ami 8 at the Geneva Motor Show on March 11, 1969. Its success was immediate, despite the absence of a station wagon version at the time of its launch. In 1968, Pierre Bercot, then head of Citroën, entrusted Robert Opron, who had been head of the design department since the death of Flaminio Bertoni, with the task of designing a replacement for the ageing and outmoded Ami 6. This was completed in the space of a few months. It was decided, in the face of budgetary constraints, to retain the latter's platform and powerplant. The rear window is no longer inverted, but rather an extension of the roof. A more restrained front end and hood, bumpers with rubber bumpers and a license plate integrated into the front, 6 side windows, recessed exterior door handles - everything is new in its overall design. Right from the start, the Ami 8 was offered in 2 versions: Comfort and Club. The latter incorporates all the features of the Ami 6 Club except for the 4 headlamps and Gala hubcaps. The Citroën Ami 8 represents a fine chapter in French automotive history. The one we're offering today has benefited from a complete restoration and is presented in exceptional condition.
