Seller's Note
THE POSSIBILITY OF DRIVING A MYTH 1963 Henry Ford created Ford Advanced Vehicles (FAV) specifically for the development of his next racing car. The first complete car was unveiled in England on April 1 and exhibited in New York shortly afterwards. The GT40 takes its name from "GT" (Grand Touring) and "40" (the car's overall height in inches). 1964: The Ford GT40 was raced for the first time in May 1964 at the 1,000 km Nürburgring, but was forced to retire due to suspension failure, and three other GT40s suffered the same fate at the 24 Hours of Le Mans three weeks later. 1965: The GT40 was entrusted to Caroll Shelby - the cars still bear the dirt and damage of the most recent race.under Shelby's direction, the Ford GT40 won the Daytona 2000 in February 1965.this was the GT40's first race victory and marked the beginning of what became the GT40 legend. From 1966 to 1969, the Ford GT40 dominated. 1966 BEAT FERRARI A 7-liter V8 engine was introduced (upgraded from the original 4.2-liter engine); raising the GT40's standing at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. The heroic result was the GT40's complete occupation of the podium after a Homeric duel with the Ferraris, none of whose 330s would reach the finish. 1969 AN ANTHOLOGICAL END TO THE RACE On Sunday at around 11 a.m., Vic Elford's Porsche 917 broke its clutch and left the lead to Ickx's Ford, who had been content to follow his paceboard. Hermann-Larousse's Porsche 908 was one lap behind, and represented the Porsches' last hope. Nibbling away at the Ford's lead on the final lap, Hermann managed to get close enough to take advantage of the suction in the hunaudières and pull up to the Ford, but was unable to complete the overtake once dislodged, as his less powerful car was deprived of suction. Ickx's Ford, with its superior displacement, could not be overtaken in the other parts of the circuit, and crossed the finish line in the lead. The Porsche's final attack prevented Ickx from slowing down to cross the line after the hour, as is the usual tactic of winners, so as not to risk taking one lap too many. When the chequered flag failed to drop, both drivers had to take an extra lap. The same scene repeats itself, with Hermann desperately rushing forward to catch Ickx on the straight, hoping for a twist of fate. Both cars have the same top speed, 320 km/h. The Porsche's only advantage over the Ickx was its slipstream. A gap of 120 meters, the second shortest distance ever recorded, separated first from second after 24 hours of racing. That year, Jacky Ickx became a legend. He set off walking across the track to demonstrate the danger of a "Le Mans-style" start, and finished 1st in his GT40.
